What is the relationship between conscience and truth? In this November 2023 lecture, David Crawford examines Karol Wojtyła’s thought on this matter, specifically showing how the relation of goodness to truth enables conscience to function practically and theoretically. Truth — that is, reality — has a binding nature on human beings, yet paradoxically, the recognition of and submission to truth allows one to take actions that are truly free and self-transcendent. Wojtyła argues that the recognition and acceptance of truth is an essential condition for personal fulfillment — for becoming who one is supposed to be.
