Music can be likened to a cathedral, says professional guitarist Gordon Kreplin, when it creates through silence and sound a meditative space into which one may enter and encounter God. The beauty of it has the capacity to lift us outside of ourselves and recenter us in God. Kreplin shares how Bach’s music in particular immerses him in the physical beauty of sound and communicates God’s presence. He is most gratified when people say they had a prayerful experience while listening to his music. This 1997 interview was originally featured on Volume 26 of the Journal.
