In his book, Heavenly Participation: The Weaving of a Sacramental Tapestry (Eerdmans, 2011), Hans Boersma tells the story of how modern culture (and many modern Christians) came to embrace a view of Creation as meaningless raw material, essentially indifferent to God. Boersma insists that to be faithful to the teaching of Scripture we need a “sacramental ontology,” a phrase he explains in this interview. This conversation was originally on Volume 108 of the Journal.
