Professor John Senior (1923–1999) believed that his role as a teacher was fulfilled only if he encouraged his students to love the truth. This made him a focus of suspicion in the academy, but a beacon to a generation of students. He once wrote: “The long way out of the radical dis-education of our time will be found, I think, only by those who get to the bottom of the labyrinthine university and there distinguish, as Dante said of the bottom of the Inferno, ‘through a round opening, the beauteous things which Heaven bears and thence again to see the stars.’” On this Friday Feature, Ken Myers talks with Fr. Francis Bethel about his intellectual biography of John Senior.
