Madeleine L’Engle’s moral vision

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Madeleine L’Engle whose fantasy novels — including A Wrinkle in Time — have been compared to the work of George MacDonald and Charles Williams. The recent film adaptation of her best-known work seems to suggest that the secret to conquering evil is believing in yourself. Ken Myers talks to two admirer’s of L’Engle’s work — Melissa Schubert and Alissa Wilkinson — who insist that there’s much more to her stories than nurturing self-confidence.
