In the first of two Features for Passiontide — the two weeks preceding Easter — Ken Myers introduces listeners to works by the Renaissance composer Orlande de Lassus (1530?–1594) which highlight the theme of lamentation: Psalmi Davidis Poenitentialis (Penitential Psalms of David) and Lagrime di San Pietro (The Tears of St. Peter). Easily the most famous composer in Europe during his lifetime, Lassus is relatively unknown today.
