Paul Heintzman
Paul Heintzman is Professor of Leisure Studies at the University of Ottawa, where he is also an Affiliated Professor in the MSc in Environmental Sustainability program. He holds a BSc in Recreology from the University of Ottawa and a Masters of Christian Studies degree from Regent College, where his thesis was titled A Christian Perspective on the Philosophy of Leisure. He worked as a recreation practitioner across Canada before receiving his PhD in Recreation and Leisure Studies from the University of Waterloo with a thesis on Leisure and Spiritual Well-Being. Previously he was an assistant professor at both Acadia and Brock Universities. His teaching and research interests include Christianity and leisure, leisure and spirituality, parks, outdoor recreation and education, and the philosophy and ethics of leisure. In 2003 he received the Society of Park and Recreation Educators (SPRE) Teaching Innovation Award. He is a past Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Leisure Research, a long-time board member of the Canadian Association for Leisure Studies, and was chair of the organizing committee for the 2023 Canadian Congress on Leisure Research. He is a founding member of the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure, and Sports Studies, and is also the initiator and facilitator of the Christian Leisure Scholars Gatherings.
